From the County Chair – December 2024
My Dear Democrats,
I write this, my last “From the Chair” of 2024, with profound sadness. We have lost a man who has been a shining light and inspiration to many. Senator Fred Harris left us November 23rd, 2024. He was 94 years old. He is survived by Sandoval County’s and DPNM’s former Chair, Marg Elliston and family. Senator Harris was loved by many and his passing leaves a huge hole in our party and much sadness in our hearts.
Updates
We will not have First Friday, Second Saturday, or our monthly Coffee Klatch in December.
Instead, we will be having our annual End of Year Potluck on Sunday, December 8th, from 3-5 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Westside Congregation, 1650 Abrazo Road, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. All Democrats are welcome!
First Friday for January is cancelled. We will have our January Second Saturday on Saturday, January 11th at 11 a.m. at M’Tucci’s Moderno in Rio Rancho.
The annual MLK JR Celebration Luncheon will be held at a new venue in 2025.St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish on 1502 Sara Rd. in Rio Rancho. The Rio Rancho NAACP will be hosting the event.

This year’s featured speaker is Dr. Clayborne Carson, renowned Martin Luther King scholar. This is an event that is not to be missed. Get your tickets early as this event will probably sell out!
