From the County Chair – October 2024
From the Chair:
Signs, Signs, Everywhere a sign?
Well, not really. You may remember that we had two hundred Biden/Harris signs. After our convention, we moved to a green option and found some Kamala stickers to paste onto the signs we had. Now? They are ALL GONE! Right after Vice President Harris’ nomination, I asked the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) when we were going to be able to get Harris/Walz signs, and I was told the end of September. I checked with DPNM the end of last week and was told that they still believe we will get them near the end of September. Fingers crossed. Watch our social media spaces to see if we received them.
HELP!
As you may know, we have 5,000 postcards to address. We need you to help us! Please consider having a postcard party. DPSC will check out post cards to you in groups of thirty. Return them to us, and we will make sure that postage is placed on them. If you would like to donate money to our postage fund, that would be great, but it is not a requirement. You can pick up postcards on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 and Saturdays from 11 to one. It is a nice way to “Do Something!”
Speaking of doing something, the most effective way to reach voters is via canvassing; yes, knocking on doors help turn-out voters because it is an opportunity for voters to make a connection with their party and their party’s candidates. Please consider canvassing. YOU can pick up a list to canvass from our DPSC headquarters at 3949 Corrales Road, Suite 110, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 and Saturdays from 11 to one. Bring a friend. Many hands make light work!
It is not too late to donate to candidates. Anything will help get them to November 5th. Our local candidates depend upon grass roots donors, so anything will help.
Rallies
We have some very important rallies coming up. On Sunday, October 13 from 11-1 we will be having a rally at Cochiti Lake. We have a very special guest speaker, United States Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez! If you have never been to Cochiti Lake, please consider attending. The views are lovely, and the people of Cochiti Lake are very welcoming.
United States Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury will be our special guest at the rally on October 20th from 1 to 3 at Rotary Park in the wonderful Town of Bernalillo! You all know the Town of Bernalillo because we have our First Friday Luncheon there most first Fridays of the month, but have you visited other venues? I encourage you to check out at least one other business! One of my favorite places is the Feed Store. Everyone goes there, and they have some great items. I never leave the feed store empty-handed. It is an added plus that it is owned by democrats!
Unfortunately, First Friday and Second Saturday are cancelled in October due to Balloon Fiesta. Saturday, October 12th NM Representative Kathleen Cates is having a fundraiser at the home of Pamina Deutsch and Michael Baron. I’ve seen 28 Balloon Fiestas since I moved to New Mexico, but the best view is the one from Pamina and Michael’s patio. Please consider attending and supporting Kathleen.
Heads Up!
We have been meeting our canvassing quotas set by DPNM every month, but I am a bit concerned about our October and November numbers. We will need to send out 56 volunteers in October and 23 in November. Please remember that we only have five days in November to meet our goal. If you haven’t canvassed, please consider canvassing in October and November. If you have canvassed, please consider taking an extra walk-list or two to help. For your information, DPNM will donate money to us if we meet our goals. This money will be important for DPSC, as we will use it to begin our savings for the next election cycle.
As always, thank you. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Stay strong and stay blue.
