Democrats of Sandoval County,

I hope the first five months of this year have treated you well, but we have a lot of work to do. We need every Democrat to become engaged in the upcoming election cycle, so over the next six months we will be asking for your help. We know that Democracy is on the ballot; if we cannot push back against those who do not believe in the rights of all Americans, Democracy can be lost. The fight begins now with our Primary Elections.  While early voting has been ongoing for the past several weeks, Election Day for the Primary is June 4th. We need every Democrat to vote for our candidates. These are candidates who believe in our values that all Americans should be treated equally and with respect.

People who live in districts that have contested elections, it is up to you to vote for the person you believe will be the best candidate for upholding our values. This situation is straightforward; may the best candidate win. But what about those of us who live in Districts that have uncontested races? Do we need to vote in those primary races? The answer is a resounding yes! Let me give you a few reason why voting for these uncontested candidates is vital. First, it provides information to outside resources or potential partners, such as legislative caucuses. These organizations exist to get qualified Democrats into office. Caucuses will be more willing to support those candidates who can prove they can get votes. Second, voting for uncontested candidates can also help obtain support from other outside organizations, such as Unions or Conservation groups. Again, these groups are more apt to sponsor candidates who can show they have the support of their constituency. Third, voting for these uncontested candidates also makes it easier to fundraise. It may seem simple, but without money, candidates cannot move forward. So, every Democratic candidate needs your vote whether or not they are in a contested Primary or not. Lastly, this cannot be understated; we need to make voting a habit. By voting in every election you can establish a habit of voicing your opinion at the ballot box and adding support to our Democratic candidates. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and not vote in every race. It is essential to vote. Every candidate needs all the support and votes they can acquire. Remember, Democracy is on the ballot along with these candidates.

I hope I have given you several reasons to vote, even if you live in a District/Precinct with an uncontested Primary race. Make sure your voice is heard and support your local candidate.

If you have questions about how to register to vote, where to cast your vote or even to look at your sample ballot you can go to the Sandoval County Clerks website (https://www.sandovalcountynm.gov/countyclerk/bureau-of-elections/ ) and get answers to all of your voting questions.

Thanks,
Greg
