When did your interest in government begin and what is it that ignited your interest?
I’ve been volunteering in our community since I was 15 or 16 years old, contributing to organizations like Junior Achievement, Watermelon Ranch, and the Balloon Fiesta, among others. Helping others is not just something I do—it’s my passion. During my time with Sandoval County, I played a key role in analyzing New Mexico statutes for the Treasurer’s Office and the Association of County Treasurers, advocating to protect property tax exemptions for veterans and pushing for other vital legislation. The dedication of the elected leaders I worked with, who tirelessly served their constituents, inspired me deeply. It was through their mentorship that I realized public service as an elected leader was a path where I could truly make a difference. The mentorship and example set by the Treasurer, Clerk, Assessor, and Commissioners of Sandoval County have fueled my commitment to follow my passion for serving our community.
What are your insights about youth involvement in New Mexico politics?
Young people need to be involved in politics because decisions being made directly affect their lives. We need to ensure that information about the government is accessible to children from an early age, starting in grade school. Regular field trips to the Roundhouse should be a standard part of the curriculum, giving students a firsthand look at how our government operates. We must create more opportunities for young people through internships, fellowships, and jobs at the city and county levels, empowering them to actively participate in the political process. It’s essential that young people understand the power of their vote and their voice—if they don’t engage and fight for their rights, they are essentially allowing others to make decisions for them. By fostering early and meaningful involvement, we can help shape a generation that is informed, engaged, and ready to lead.
If elected, what will your priorities be?
I will focus on reducing crime, improving education, the environment, and ensuring access to quality medical care—each crucial to the future of our community. Public safety and health must go hand in hand; addressing crime requires comprehensive behavioral health support for those leaving the criminal justice system, breaking the cycle of untreated mental illness and addiction that leads to repeat offenses. Education is also key; our children need to be equipped with financial literacy and civics knowledge, and our teachers must be supported with the necessary resources to thrive in the classroom. Ensuring access to quality medical care for all residents is essential, as it underpins the overall well-being of our community. Lastly, we must protect New Mexico’s natural beauty while planning for a sustainable future by investing in alternative energy sources like solar, wind, and hydrogen. With thoughtful leadership, we can ensure a safer, healthier, more informed, and environmentally responsible state for generations to come.
What can you share so we will know you better?
As a new mom, I’m more invested than ever in the future of New Mexico—not just for my daughter, but for all our children. My deep love for this state and its people compels me to serve, because I’m passionate about making a difference. I’ve dedicated years to working, volunteering, and advocating for our community, and I’m committed to being accessible and putting in the hard work needed to tackle the challenges we face. Serving isn’t just something I do; it’s who I am. I’m here to fight for a brighter future for all of us, now and for generations to come.
