Polling at the Top of the Ticket in New Mexico
Dem candidates at the top of the ticket look strong going into the Nov 2024 election. According to a major poll released in mid September, we see the following.
Race for President
Harris/Walz – 49%
Trump/Vance – 39%
This difference of 10 points is very close to the 11point, approximate 100,000 votes, win by Biden over Trump in 2020. One thing to keep in mind is that typically Trump actually has better election results than the polls indicate, not 10% better!
Race for US Senate
Martin Heinrich – 50%
Nella Domenici – 38%
In 2018, Heinrich won his election with 54% of the vote. He is still the overwhelming favorite for reelection at this time.
Comment:
Sandoval County Dems must not get complacent. The down ballot offices are critical to foster Democratic values, programs and actions. The county offices (Clerk and Treasurer) and county commission races are vital for us. So we need to reelect Anne Brady Romero (Clerk) and Jennie Taylor (Treasurer). There is a great opportunity to flip the county commission with 2 empty seats up this election. What a joy it would be to see some progressive ideas come out of that body for a change. Josh Jones, the incumbent, Madigan Ray and Beau Sandoval need our support, help, money and votes!!!!
The New Mexico Senate and House races deserve our attention too. While both houses are overwhelming Democratic, we want to keep it that way. This is not necessarily the case in Sandoval County.
In the Senate, Cindy Nava (District 9), Phil Ramirez (District 12) and Amina Everett (District 40) need your votes and support. None of these folks are currently in the Senate. It would be a good time to send them to the Round House.
In the House, there are 5 seats up for election. Two of them are currently held by Democrats; Cathleen Cates (District 44) and Matthew McQueen (District 50). Let’s make it a clean sweep by electing Frank Smith (District 23), Michelle Sandoval (District 57) and Luke Jungmann (District 60)!
