President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund Condemns Nella’s “Blatant Attempt to Mislead Voters”
Domenici’s Ad is Funded by Anti-Choice Politicians Who Want to Pass a National Abortion Ban
After news broke that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is bankrolling a new ad for Nella Domenici, multimillionaire former hedge fund executive and Mitch McConnell’s hand-picked GOP recruit for Senate in New Mexico, Sen. Martin Heinrich released a blistering statement in which he assailed Domenici’s ad as an “insult to every New Mexican who values their rights and freedoms.”
The new ad, funded by the NRSC—led by Sen. Steve Daines, who supports a national ban on abortion and has enthusiastically endorsed Domenici—attempts to obscure Domenici’s positions on abortion access and reproductive freedom.
The deceptive ad has caught the attention of national reproductive rights groups. Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, weighed in today, releasing a statement condemning the ad:
“Nella Domenici’s latest ad is a blatant attempt to mislead voters and hide her true stance on reproductive rights. Her record is clear: she has consistently aligned herself with anti-abortion extremists who are determined to strip away our freedoms.
“Electing Nella would give the national GOP the vote they need to pass a national abortion ban, taking the freedom to control our own bodies, lives, and futures away from millions.
“We need reproductive rights champions like Senator Martin Heinrich, who has been a steadfast advocate for access to sexual and reproductive health care, and understands that abortion is a fundamental right that must be protected.”
Nella Domenici backed the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Roe v. Wade and has attacked Sen. Martin Heinrich for opposing a national abortion ban. She is supported by leading Republicans, including Sen. John Thune, Sen. John Cornyn, and Sen. Steve Daines, all of whom would ban abortion nationwide. Domenici has supported extreme anti-choice Republicans, including Rep. Yvette Herrell, who was an original co-sponsor of the Life at Conception Act and supports banning all abortions. And Domenici donated to Mark Ronchetti after it was revealed he privately said he wanted to “end all abortions.”
A blatant attempt to mislead voters, indeed.
