The Death of Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy: The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform; pretense. Oxford English Dictionary

Hypocrite:  A person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.  Merriam-Webster Dictionary

The MAGA crowd and Donald J. Trump have killed off the meaning of hypocrisy in this country.  It used to be that if one was a hypocrite, depending on the level of hypocrisy involved, that person would be shuned and reminded of the hyprocrisy often.  No longer.  The word has no meaning any more because of the numerous hypocrites that surround us, especially Republicans.

There are many, many categories of hypocrites.  Some of the most obvious and obnoxious ones are as follows:

Evangelical Christians – These are perhaps the biggest hypocrites in the USA.  They supported and continue to support Trump in droves.  They support a man who is a serial cheater on his numerous wives, a man who is a convicted felon (34 times), a person who does not attend church and is not religious in any demonstrable way, a person who lies, cheats, steals and breaks numerous commandments.  They do this for primarily one reason-to end abortion and control the lives, health and well being of women.  Well they got their way on this one; to an extent, with the overturning of Roe v Wade.  Look at the chaos and hardship that wroth.

Small Government Republicans – Sure small government when it comes to helping less fortunate people who need a hand-up.  Big, intrusive government when it comes to running the lives of gay and transgender people, especially kids.  Let’s not get the government involved with leveling the playing field but let ‘s pass laws that take away the rights of gay and transgender people and their parents who want to raise them the way they see fit.  While we are at it, let’s restrict interstate travel for women who need or want an abortion in another state.  And lately, let’s keep a registry of pregnant women to make sure they don’t to anything to terminate their pregnancies.  No small government in those instances.

American Patriots – Can you believe that the Jan 6th, 2020 insurrectionists and rioters are now considered “patriots” among Republicans? They are held up as an American ideal?  If this isn’t Orwellian double-speak, nothing is.  There is no more example in contemporary society than these people of being “unpatriotic” for trying to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power in this country.  And the so-called “patriot groups” like the Three Percenters, Oath Keepers, and Sovereign Citizens, to name a few, are undemocratic and antigovernment movements that are as unpatriotic as can be.

Fiscal Conservatives – These people used to be the bedrock of the Republican Party.  They are against any type of spending not earmarked for defense or national security.  They are against infrastructure spending even though that type of spending is an investment that grows our economy.  To these hypocrites, that spending blows a hole in our national budgets.  Of course, that was not the case with Trumps tax cuts, which went mainly to the super rich.  No hole in the budget squawking then.

Law and Order Crowd – More like the lawless and disorder crowd.  If one of their own runs afoul of the law, it’s the fault of the justice system.  But for the “different” in our society, it’s their criminal tendencies.  Some Republicans in Congress walked out of a recognition event for the police officers who tried to hold back the Trump hordes who invaded the Capital on Jan 6th.  Law and order, my foot!

White Christian Nationalists – Absolutely nothing Christian about these people.  They push the “great replacement theory” and “invasion by non-white hordes”.  These people downplay the contributions of nonwhites to our country.  They are unrepentant racists.  They refuse to recognize that the playing field is not level and that white privilege exists.  They are against any programs or initiatives that attempt to uplift people of color.  One need only look at the backlash to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in this country.  Funny thing is that for many of these people, who were non-WASP, their ancestors were discriminated against because they were “undesirables” during times of major migration to the US of A.

Members of the categories above share one thing in common.  They are all phonies!  They have no scruples or bedrock beliefs.  They have sold their souls to the Orange want-to-be dictator.
