Plan will Emphasize Regional and Demographic Diversity from NM at National Convention

The Democratic Party of New Mexico announced today that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) approved their 2024 Delegate Selection Plan for the DNC National Convention in Chicago next year. Delegates are elected at a series of county, congressional district, and state conventions held after the New Mexico 2024 presidential primary election or fill one of several “at-large” positions.

Participation in DPNM’s delegate selection process is open to all New Mexico registered Democrats. Delegates will travel to the DNC National Convention in Chicago to convey New Mexico’s votes for the Democratic presidential nominee.

The 2024 DNC National Convention will be held from August 19th-22nd, the Party’s presidential and vice presidential candidates will be nominated and the Party’s national platform will be adopted. New Mexico will be represented by 47 delegates at the Convention. Two alternate delegates will be selected in the event that one of the 47 delegates is not able to attend the Convention.

“The delegate selection process is a vital duty of the Democratic Party of New Mexico and we proudly make it as fair, transparent, and inclusive as possible. DPNM will hit the road next year across New Mexico to speak to Democrats across the state who are interested in being a delegate,” said DPNM Executive Director Sean Ward. “Our Delegate Selection plan will result in a diverse group of motivated Democratic delegates from every corner of our state.”

The Delegate Selection Plan will include provisions to ensure fair and diverse representation that represents New Mexico’s ethnic and regional diversity. In the coming months, DPNM will proactively reach out to historically underrepresented communities to build a delegation that represents the diversity of our party.
