From the County Chair – November 2023
Hello Democrats!
We have an office, but what a long, strange trip it’s been! We will be leasing Suite 110 of the Territorial Plaza Building in Corrales. This office was within our budget and had so many amenities that we just couldn’t let it slip by. The office complex is located between the Growers’ Market and the Tea Room on the west side of the street. We will be having an open house after the New Year, so keep your eyes peeled for information about that.
If you are Veteran, please consider marching behind the DPSC banner on November 11th at 10 a.m. at Country Club and Southern in Rio Rancho. The mile walk will end at the Veteran’s Park behind the post office on Southern.
If you have leftover Halloween candy you would like to get rid of, please consider donating it to DPSC. We will be happy to accept donations during First Friday in November where guest speaker Alexis Jimenez will talk to us about Moms Demand Action.
Join DPSC on November 12th at Jemez Pueblo’s Feast of San Diego. We will have a tent and table and would welcome all to join us. Please remember that recording devices (including phone and watch cameras), sketch pads, alcohol, and firearms are not allowed and may be confiscated.
Speaking of events, we will be having a Democrats’ Appreciation Potluck on December 9th at the Unitarian Universalist Westside Congregation at 1650 Abrazo Road, NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87174. Please bring a dish to share, and be ready to enjoy some great people and interesting conversation.
In past years we would sponsor a family referred to us by Peanut Butter and Jelly Family Services Holiday Wish program. We would get a list and then we would shop for specific items. We will not be sponsoring a specific family this year, but if you would like to help, you can call Danielle Velasquez at (505) 877-7060, and she will help get you connected. Another option is to purchase gift cards and deliver them to PB&J. Of course, PB&J will always accept cash donations. For more information about the program, please visit their website. https://www.pbjfamilyservices.org/holiday-wish-2023
We will continue our food drive in January for the Reverend Martin Luther King’s National Day of Service. DPSC will collect the food and donate it directly to Storehouse West.
The last Coffee Klatch of 2023 will be 11:00 am, October 28th at Oval Dogs Coffee at 661 Quantum Road, Rio Rancho. There is not agenda, but candidates may speak for a few minutes.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO SECOND SATURDAY IN NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER. THERE WILL BE NO FIRST FRIDAY IN DECEMBER. COFFEE KLATCHES WILL RESUME IN JANUARY, at an in-door location!
Enjoy the end of year festivities. Peace, love, and joy to all.
Alexandria Piland, DPSC Chair
